The Meuse Valley Mosaic Route
This beautiful loop shows you why Limburg feels like a patchwork of landscapes.
You'll cycle straight into the open nature of the Maas Valley, along the green edges of Hoge Kempen National Park. Quiet cycle paths will take you past villages and expansive views, with the Maas always close by.
On your way, you cycle through Dilsen-Stokkem and pick up the Kolenspoor, the former coal railway line which today forms a wonderfully relaxed cycling route. A stop at Station As is ideal for a short break. There is always something to see, from heritage to small local surprises.
One of the highlights is Cycling between the Mine Terrils. This iconic floating cycle bridge connects the twin terril with the panoramic terril and runs over the water, making it feel almost as if you are cycling over the lake.
After cycling through the mining landscape and the recognisable garden district of Eisden, you return towards the Maas area near Vucht. There you follow the dike paths through the rich flora and fauna of the River Park Maasvallei. Before returning to Kikmolen, you will also cycle past Leut and the castle surroundings, a beautiful final stage to conclude the day.
Tip: If you still have some energy left, add a short nature walk in the vicinity of De Wissen or Negenoord-Kerkeweerd. With a bit of luck, you'll spot birds and other animals. It's a perfect extra moment in the Maas Valley.
