Where the Meuse sets the tone

Here in East Limburg the Meuse sets the pace. Over the centuries, the river has made its way through the valley, leaving behind a landscape where nature still feels wonderfully free. This round trip starts and ends at Kikmolen campsite (junction 61) and follows the river's story: vast skies, sun-drenched paths and long bike rides along open banks.

The Maas Valley is known as one of the driest and sunniest corners of western Europe, and the landscape reflects that. Gravel and gravel soils provide a special character, perfect for hardy herbs, wildflowers and even vineyards. Along the way, you will pass places where you will not only see but also taste the Maasland: stop at a winery, find a sunny terrace and enjoy local flavours shaped by this unique terroir by the river.

A ferry crossing adds a bit of adventure as you sail to the Dutch side and back again, simple, charming and very ‘Maasvallei’. This route is mostly about the rhythm of the river: kilometres of gentle cycling, changing views and cultural touches in between... before returning to Kikmolen with that fresh, sun-kissed Maasland feeling.
