Walking

Ready to discover over 440 kilometres of natural beauty?
With 88 circular walking routes, ranging from 3 to 17 kilometres, the walking network around Hoge Kempen National Park offers endless outdoor adventures – right on the doorstep of Camping Kikmolen.
Each route reveals a different side of this breathtaking landscape: vast heathlands, tranquil forests, hidden bodies of water, and panoramic viewpoints. Whether you're looking for a short walk or a full-day trek, you'll always find a route to suit your pace and mood.

Start your walk with ease
The best way to start your walk? Go to one of the official entrance gates or reception points. These are perfect starting points, complete with:

  • Car park
  • Detailed information boards
  • Cafés or eateries (at many locations)
  • Public toilets

Each hiking area works in the same simple and intuitive way. In the car park, you'll find a large overview map with various circular walks, each marked with a different colour code symbol.

Each route is marked with a coloured icon on wooden signposts along the route. Simply follow the signs and you'll find yourself back at the starting point. Some circular walks connect to the main area via a brown path (connecting path) and all routes are clearly signposted in both directions, so you'll never get lost.
🟢 Green: short walks (0-5 km)
🔵 Blue: medium-length walks (3-8 km)
🔴 🟣 🟠 Red, purple and orange: medium-distance routes (7–14 km)
🟡 Yellow: longer walks (10–16 km)

Three simple ways to walk
You can enjoy the network in the way that suits you best.

  1. On-site
Just drive to a walking area, look at the map at the start and follow the coloured signs.
  2. With a walking map
Buy a detailed walking map (ask at reception), drive to the indicated starting point and explore using your map or by following the markers.
  3. Digitally guided
Download GPS routes from partner websites and follow them on your smartphone or walking GPS.
You will find all current routes online, including on platforms such as Walking in Limburg en Route.nl (Dutch version).
